Miguel Chicharro's cities

MIGUEL CHICHARRO. ARQUITECTURE: IMAGINARY CITIES

Even though Architecture appears to be the subject of these images, the real protagonist is time. And this is not just because the extensive accumulation of architectural styles and different origin elements suggest strata or slides of different temporary placement moments. It is also the very election of the wide horizontally lengthened format and the generous proliferation of small details, that obliges a successive reading of the picture space, as if it were a text.
In both cases, the geometrical scheme grows and develops organically in rhizome, and, as if it was the root of the mandrake, it looks for the human form – that is to say the sense – among the intricate labyrinths of a monumental architecture that is disintegrated and streaked with light flags moved by the wind, and Latin inscriptions of a remote and legendary past.
